i got a speeding ticket from this stupid ass motorcycle cop. i thought the speed limit was 45 so i was going 50. well he said the speed limit was 35 so he gave me a ticket. :wtc:
heres the thing:

when i saw him, i turned into a parking lot of a local junior high and he then proceeded to pull up behind me.

he asked me for my license only

he never turned his lights on at all!

i was parked in my car when he came up to me....on what i believe is private property...not on a city street!

i was just wondering if you fight these dang things and if anyones ever won trying to fight a speeding ticket?! please help with any ideas or suggestions or stories! thanks

 

from what it sounds like to me, you said u pulled into a junior high parking lot, if u were that close to a school zone then wouldn't the speed limit be like 25mph there. So either way u were going to fast. You can always try and fight it. It wouldn't hurt u any to try to fight it. Either u get off or pay it anyway.

 

Regardless, you were speeding, so you can't argue out of that part.. technically, it could be considered private property on the school grounds if its a private school, but you broke the law on a public street. It's not like the officer has no jurisdiction there like if you were to leave the country...

 

i know i was speeding...but so was the car in front of me and the car next to me....i just happened to be in a company car and its yellow at that...no one else got pulled over and school wasnt in session

 

pay the fine and be done with it.

 

but how are you going to argue it? What you thought and what actually is are two different thing, and the latter is what matters to the judge. You can try fighting it, but it can bite you in the ass, I'd just do traffic school and pay the fine if you can.

everyone says pay the fine like its just chump change...im a starving college student working part time and going to school full time and paying bills out of my ass! i dont wanna give the city $150 dollars! If the cop doesnt show up, don't you win?!?! help!

 

not always, had a friend show up, the cop didn't and he still got fawked.. in CA, if you get a ticket and haven't had one in awhile, you can take traffic school, but if you go and plead innocent, then no traffic school and a point goes on your record.

 

correct. that is a myth.

if the cop doesn't show then they just reschdule it for when he can show. if the traffic judge feels you were trying to delay it so the cop wont show (by delaying it several times) then he/she will go after you.
