Default Comp speakers.

I'm looking to upgrade my computers speaker system. It's my only source of music (i gave my sony mini system to my little sister inlaw) but i am noticing quite a few of the ones i like have bad reviews as far as mp3 playback goes... anyone have any advice/experience on some nice system? TIA.
