Default computer monitors

i got a new (to me) computer a while ago and they guy gave me a 19" monitor, but that just seems too small at this point and i'm looking for something bigger, maybe 23".

i haven't bought a computer monitor... possibly ever.

hdmi would be nice so i can hook up an xbox or ps3 in the office.

what should i look for when i buy one? any good deals you've seen?

drew?

this one is beast. Hands down, beast.

- 2ms response time: the screen is reacting as fast as your brain can process the information
- 23.6in: perfect gaming size
- 3 display inputs: HDMI, DVI, and VGA
- Integrated speakers: not the best, but good enough for Youtube and videos.

It's on sale right now too. -$30 instant coupon, -$10 w. mail-in-rebate

and things to consider for your purchase ... most of these won't apply, but will guide your decision making

Viewing angle: are you in a collaborative setting?

Purpose: are you producing visual art (images, videos) for commercial use?

Other purpose: besides computing, what else would you like to use this for?

Setup: what is the monitor being attached to?

Other setup: in an ideal situation, how many monitors would you like to have? (single or dual)

dual would be cool, but i don't want to spend that much right now

hooking it up to a mac pro, it has dual dvi out.

only going to plug a ps3 or xbox into it otherwise.

Monitors are sooo cheap right now. I would like a nice 24" and use my 22" as a secondary.

No. I've noticed that Newegg passes along their inventory savings onto the consumer. So, the discount of $30 should be seen as a 1 time event and I wouldn't count on it showing up multiple times over the year.

What that means? There will be another sale on another monitor, but just not this one ... for better or worse. Be comfortable with your purchase.

With any monitor that isn't an Apple Cinema Display, you're not going to replicate that Mac look for sure. I'll vouch for Apple displays all day. Even high end IPS monitors from Dell and HP can't touch the Apple ones. With that out of the way ...

My setup:

[/spoiler]

I know from experience that 2 23's is the perfect size. Pictured = 2 x 27.5, lol. I was about to say, if only 1 monitor is needed, go with a single 27.
