Dont take anything for granted...
Alright folks,
I'm a proud owner of 2000 Honda Accord V6 EX. Beautiful car. I've begun posting pictures of it around the forum. I miss my car so much. I was in a car accident on Thursday evening, of last week, as I left Coggin Honda of St. Augustine with my girlfriend. A 16 year old pulled out in front of me last second, and I rammed into the rear end of his car. The accident was his fault. He was actually making a left hand turn and since US-1 is a divided highway, he wanted to go into the median between the two roads (north and south) but there were already 3 cars there, so he had no where to go. I had no where to go as well because to my left was these cars, and to my right were cars at the stop sign, so I hit him on his driver side rear end. I'm hurting now as I have neck pains, and back pains, and chest pains. I'm thanking god that i'm alive. Dont ever take your life, your car, or any possession you have for granted. That saying "live life to its fullest" is probably the most truthful saying you can live by. In a split second, it could be gone. I've been depressed since the accident about my car, but more thankful that i'm alive. All that i've worked for the past 3 years, is gone. Again, enjoy your cars, treasure them, dont drive stupid, dont speed, dont put others in danger. If you want to see how fast your car is, take it to the track, not the highway. Look after yourselves and everyone around you. I now have the images of no where to go, and the air bags in my face with a loud bang noise. I'll never forget this, and I dont want anyone else to experience this as well. Stay safe everyone.

dude that sucks for your loss man.and :werd: to the quote above. When i had my last accident and the accident with RiceburninVTEC (when he lost control of his civic), that really changed me. First it was cause it was my DREAM HONDA. since i can remember, i've wanted a black 91 CRX Si, when it got hit, i was devasted, and it put my PT Cruiser in perspective. I don't want to lose that either. Then after Brad's accident, i relized how lucky we were to both walk away. we both couldve been injured or worse. I started thinking about all the times i drove crazy with people in the car, and then i finally thought about how they felt about me doing it. Cars are a big part of my life, and after that, i really appreciate my cars more now. more for what it is, not about how fast it will go. i treasure my vehicles now.. performance mods are still ok, but i will now only test them in controlled environments, ie drag strip, autocross.
Also my insurance is playing another role in my mindset now. I basically have 2 car payments a month. 400 for the Cruiser, and 400 for the insurance. The fact that i i could lose my priveledge (which it is by the way) to drive my cars scares the hell out of me.
Im very sad for your loss, and i hope you get everything resolved as quickly as possible.and thanks for this post, i hope a lot more people understand now.
Well, the accident was his fault so i'll be taken care of with his insurance. I'm very grateful that i'm alive. The only thing is, I was about 1 year away from paying that car off. Now I get about 15 grand or so for my car, and then pay it off, i'll have about 8-10 grand left. I know that sounds all great, but i'm feeling "no car payment". I was working so hard making double payments on my car to get it payed off and now i'm back to square one. I've already spoke to a lawyer, so we'll see what happens.
Quick Question: Anyone know if I'll be able to take my rims off after the insurance company estimates my car? I have stock wheels which I guess I can put on if I really have to, but would they allow the car to just sit on cinder blocks since they are my PERSONAL wheels?

You guys are very lucky.. not just because you're okay... but because you get it. I know someone who has totaled 5 cars.. the latest because he was drunk. And he doesn't get it.. He just got his lisence back in May.. and he still drinks and drives... His parents see him as the prodigle son. :wtf: He's such a damn moron. I really don't think he's going to stop until he kills himself.. or someone else.
So I would have to put my OEM wheels back on to take my aftermarket ones? If I have to I will.
I'm very lucky in more ways than one. I always knew that driving was a privelage. Thats the thing, I didnt get into a wreck because I was racing or trying to act like a big shot. I got into a wreck because of someone else not thinking before they did something. Now, there is nothing that I can do to get it back. I enjoy modifying cars, and making them "mine" so to speak. I dont think I will do that with my next car though. Its very heart breaking. I'm going to miss this car with a passion. I put everything I had into it.
As far as personal injuries, I'm not quite sure what the Insurance Company will do with this. Either way, i'm going to speak to a lawyer. Everyone I have spoke to says that I should get a lawyer and get what I can. I'm not the greedy type, and I am very grateful that i'm still alive. But financially, i'm back to point A again after I had that car almost paid off. Although i've gotten X-rays done of my back, neck, and chest and everything came back ok, I do not know if in the future I will have problems with these area's due to my accident. That is another reason why I spoke to a lawyer.
Right now, i'm just in a wait and see game. The insurance company still has to call me back to let me know of the estimates of my car and to find out if it is officially totaled. I'm pretty sure it will be
Again, everyone please be safe out there. Although this wasn't street racing related, its not worth it to street race. Its just plain stupid. Your car is your prized possesion, something that you put your heart and soul into. Street racing not only puts you in danger, but those around you as well. There have been so many accidents due to street racing, and those who just dont get seem to blame the cops. The cops are saving their lives by pulling them over before they hurt themselves or someone else.
Life is more important than showing the guy next to you your car is faster.
Tell them to meet you at the track.
I'm out.

Not to diss those who may not have paid for their car themselves.. but I think you respect your stuff more when you work hard and buy your own car. I've loved all my cars.. but my first one my mom got me ( 90 Civic Sedan) I loved it... and treated it well.. but.. my 95 Coupe.. and now my 2000 Coupe.. I paid/pay for... and it's different kind of love. It's an accomplishment. It's pride knowing what you can do for yourself. I'm not overly crazy on the road.. tho.. I do have short bursts of crazy go nuts. But.. I always know to calm down and be safe... and just sit back.. and cruise.. and enjoy my ride for what it is.
