Yes it is Brake Horsepower, and as I recall, it basically means horsepower measured at the wheels, as opposed to the crank.

probably just a simpler term for it. usually i hear "brake hp" on european car shows

 

i wouldnt think BHP & WHP means the same thing...or else there wouldnt be both... but i guess i could be wrong

 

bhp usually refers to 'base horse power'...meaning the hp at the flywheel. like a b16 may have 160 bhp; this is the hp dealers/advertisers like to mention in their ads, since base hp is higher than hp at the wheels.

whp is wheel horse power, the hp you actually get.

 

if 2 cars have the same HP at the crank..... the wheel HP for both cars will vary from one another correct?

 

ya, some cars lose alot of power through tthe drive train. (ex sentra spec v) and some hardly lose any (ex: mustang cobra)

 

BHP and WHP are different.. BHP is at the crank and WHP is at the wheels...

 

When the magazines say BHP, they say brake horsepower.

I'd take it as meaning brake horsepower.
