what could be wrong with this computer???

i replaced a board and processor for this guy. upgraded from a pentium ii 333 to a amd duron 950 w/ an xfx brand motherboard.
when the computer is shut down then turned back on later, the bois won't detect teh ide drives, but if you reboot it detects them find and the computer is perfect until it's shut down again.
im going over there today to check it out. what should i look for?

if those don't work try changing the hard drive positions (master and slave) and dont forget its jumpers.
when i made my ide drives run on sata raid i had to remove a jumper on a WD HDD and put a maxtor drive's jumper as master

1hdd and 1cdrom, hdd set to master and cdrom set to slave
DakarM, you say an underpowered p/s can cause this? for ide to now show up but to show up after reboot?
