Now here is what I call reverse stupidity when tech support doesn't know what the hell they are talking about.
My family owns a Gateway that they are desperately trying to sell because they finally realized its cheaper and more fun to build your own system. So the CD drive on it toasted itself and we called Gateway to ask them to send my folks a new one because it was still under warranty.
Bottom line they are doing research to find out what the problem is. They asked my folks to do everything from check the BIOS settings, to detect new hardware to checking the device manager while I sat there going "The damn thing is dead nothing will detect a dead device. Its like connecting an EIDE cable to the motherboard and the other end just hanging there."
