Default tech service contracts?

last night i worked on a pc for some lady and she told her her boss asked her about service contracts. basically they pay me so much per month and i'll work for them for a specified number of hours in the month. i dont have a problem doing this but im wondering how much i should charge. currently i charge $40 for the first hour and $30/hr thereafter. should i charge like 250 for 10 hours a month or something like that? also, what would i do with unused hours. should i "roll over" the hours like bell-south does or just have them forfeit those hours?

thanks for your help

You need to hook me up with a $30/hr job.

You should create a contract based on how many max hours you think you could work for them in a month. And then base it on that dollar amount and give them unlimted hours of service/month.

ie:
You believe that the most hours you would work for them in a month was 10. So 1hr @ $40 = 9hrs @ $30 = $310. Then you could give them a monthly contract of like $300/mo unlimited service.

You have to make the contract a deal for them. So you dont want to charge them the same rate as if they were paying hourly.. I wouldn't roll over the left-ver time either. You could do a 10 hour contract for $250 and every hour after that is $30. Just a thought.

I was thinking $250 for 10 hours, $375 for 15 or $500 for 20 hours and then maybe 30/hr after their monthly time is up.

you basically cut them a bit of a deal, and if they dont use the hours at the end of the month you do not roll them over. they are entitled to xx hours for xx dollars, and after that you go back to your full rate, or an o/t rate or w/e... make sure to discuss that with them as well.

"About the service contracts, contracts would consist of 10, 15 or 20 hours per month at a discounted rate of $25 per hour. Any time needed after the monthly hours would be billed $30/hr on the next month's bill. Hours would include troubleshooting, installing/removing software, virus and spyware prevention, installing and upgrading hardware and travel time."

Sound OK?

would that mean you were oncall for them 24 hours a day? what happens when you're busy.

leave yourself some wiggle room for response time.
