I used to hate bigger dogs merely because they were big, but then I came across my gf's black lab and totally changed my mind about them.

how can you say they are useless? Most dogs are for companionship, and dogs, big or small, can provide that.

If you want companionship in a small package, you should get a cat. They're cleaner, quieter, and don't require periodic grooming to avoid looking like a Chia pet gone bad.

Besides, your dog couldn't come with me backpacking. The harness would squash her like a bug.
