Thanks guys! I really did, Dave. Thanks for the wish!!! It actually happened.

I went to work this morning and interviewed a couple for our newlywed project. The couple was super cool! I worked with a colleague who finished her PhD exams yesterday, in Psychology. It was a pleasure being around that kind of energy. She's awesome!!! I then drove down the street to hang out with my step-daughter who lives in a nearby city. We went to IN and OUT and talked about life and boys and boys and life. I'm so lucky to have a 16 year-old like her call me, "Dad." I shake my head at level of comfort she has discussing really personal topics. Independent of me, I am glad she has someone LIKE me to spit shit out to. Guys with daughters..... listen to them. Tell them the truth from common energy within you. When she asks you for advice or tell you something personal, she's gonna to focus on the energy you had the last time she told you something personal. Keep your energy consistent from who you are. Simply tell her the truth and you'll speak from a place you don't sound like you're having to remember. She's gonna look for that energy every time. I think girls remember what their mothers DO for them, and remember what their fathers SAY to them.

Happy birthday homie!

That bit of advise actually struck a chord with me. I've been trying to define my roll for my stepdaughter and it's hard to figure out where I fit in to her life. All I've been able to do is just be there when she actually needs me (which isn't that often, she is 95% independent adult at 16) and try to keep it real. And it's true that mothers can't always offer good advise in certain situations. Sometimes they need a man's perspective. I think I worry a bit about it because my relationship with my own step parents was always a little jacked up.
