i started getting into emo back in 1996 and i love the progression it's made. my bands here are (mostly emo and some hardcore):
Sunny Day Real Estate, Thursday, Texas Is The Reason, Inside, Taking Back Sunday, Matchbook Romance, My Chemical Romance, Thrice, The Used, Hopesfall, Skycamefalling, From Autumn to Ashes, Gameface, Atreyu, Poison the Well, Thumb and others.
[rant] Good Charlotte sucks. i have never seen such an image driven "punk" band before. it's kinda pathetic when you see them all over MTV and people are totally into it and think it's punk or anything more than just marketing to sell an image. [/rant]

i like most bands on Saddle Creek and Vagrant Records. used to like Drive Thru but now i'm sick of them (except something corporate and starting line). pavement, brand new, Jimmy Eat World (clarity is possibly the best album ever recorded), the Cure, the Postal Service, old Weezer, Hello Goodbye, Taking Back Sunday, Duran Duran, Feeling Left Out, Ladytron, coheed and cambria....the list goes on and on....
local bands are the best though

EMO is short for EMOTION.
You know, its that music like... where they alwasy talk about their girl leaving them and how sad they are and how the world doesnt understand them and crap. Basically country, without the trucks and dogs and to an alternative beat.
New Found Glory would be a good example.

BDP (KRS-ONE), GangStarr, Tribe Called Quest, De La Sol, EPMD, etc.
