Need some help with a network problem
Trying to set up one Windows 98 computer to share files with a Windows XP computer........The XP computer can access the 98's files, but when I try to browse network neighborhood on the win98 machine, I get an error "unable to access network...blah blah...go to network troubleshooter"
when I search specifically for the winXP computer on the win98 computer, it DOES find it, but I can't open it, and it says "no error information"
WTF is wrong with this thing? BTW, I can't mess anything up, I can't find my win98 second edition CD

Make sure the XP firewall is off..
If all else fails... remove ALL file and printer sharing from both... reboot both.... add it back to the 98 machine first, reboot it. Then add it to the XP machine and use the XP's Home Network Wizard thingy find it and set it up.
I had a problem with one XP machine not seeing another XP machine... ran the wizard thing and all was good. It's all in the xp setup wizard.

My young apprentice. You must learn the basics of NT filing permissions. In order to access a shared file on an NT machine, you must have an account either on that machine or on the domain that the machine is connected to. Permissions have to be set for that account describing to Windows what types of permissions to grant (ie read/write/modify).
