I've had fresh and salt water tanks in the past. My 75 gallon salt water setup was pushing around $3000 fully stocked. Got bored with it and sold it.

That will work too, as long as it's left uncovered so the chlorine can evaporate off. Yes, other minerals and organics can cause problems though.
If you buy bottled water, just make sure you don't get distilled. There is not enough "stuff" in to support the fish. It's debatable, I know, but I have never had good luck with it.

edit: Forgot to add, I'm also in the transition to LED lighting, and the corals are going to be pissed for a while.

my beta just died...had it for a year. I pretty much just fed it and changed the water whenever it got so dirty I couldn't see the beta anymore.

I kept a Betta at my office for about 2.5 years. Changed half the water every week (left tap water out overnight to let the chlorine evaporate off, as said previously), and fed him Monday through Friday.

I even let HAN pick the name: https://www.honda-acura.net/forums/t...etta-fish.html

I got him some rocks and a plant, just don't have pictures of that.

For what it's worth, this is what it looked like last february when after I built the stand and got it painted.

I'll update soon with new pics.

Painted the back, drilled the glass, plumbed the overflow and return, and made a custom sump.

Turn off the filter, Betta's do not like running water. Though the bigger the tank the better. They're low maintenance but should change the water at least weekly.

I used to breed Betta's.

Where it says size, drop the bar down to "12gal long". I have the same brand of tank. Good stuff.

I miss my reef setup. I'm not in a position to start another one up, but when I am it's game on!
