Sounds like you handled it about the way I would have. I figure wait for a few seconds, look around to see if anyone is hurrying back, and then jump in. I've hopped out of line to grab things before, but never in the express lane and only if I know exactly where it is and I know the person in front of me is going to take longer to check out than it will take me to get back.

 

someone tried to pull a similar crap around here and the check out person simply told the person that you must be in line to keep your place. the dude started making comments about how there should be a rule, etc, so I just asked the check out person if there was a rule about leaving just your basket and going out of line.

Hahah, yea would not wait, especially in the express line. I'm not trying to spend the whole day at the grocery store waiting for dumbasses like that.


I gotta admit though, I think I've done this a couple times but always made it back within a minute.
