Are club hosters allowed to say ages 21 to 30 only and not let anybody older than 40 in? Is that legal?

Not legal. Can't turn someone away based on older age.

You're going to have to handle this via marketing. On flyers / promotional pieces, make sure that you're hitting your target audience. Don't do anything that would make a 40 year old want to go there.

"We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason"

Just so happens over a certain age is what gets turned away

make it clear on all printed material. plus don't ever tell anyone why they are getting refused. just refuse them. you can get caught in a lie if the person you are refusing is persistent and/or a dickhead.

Friend of a friend wants to attend an event, but the promoter/hoster says he's too old. It's not his venue, just his event. Just going to take the guy anyways. h: Crowd is probably early 20s to early 30s and the guy is only 40.

I've been running these types of parties for a decade and we have this problem all the time. I believe since the club isn't "public accommodation", they can get away with this. I don't know the exact legal terms of it; but even though it's not HIS venue, the venue "rented" the space to HIM for the "private" event. The event is a "private" party and they are allowed to be discriminatory on whatever they want. Usually it's dress code or guy/girl ratio that's the common reason...rarely seen it based on age.

Well if it's 21 to 30 where did the 40 come in?
