never hurts to have a working engine as a backup when you have your h22...say you blow your h22 up...you could throw your old f22 back in, or if you decide to sell the car you can put the old engine back and keep the h22 for another project, or sell it seperately...

summary: don't blow up your engine, do the t-belt package.

and yes p/s = power steering.

how much will head gaskets cost? And drive belts, or is that the balancer and p/s belt?

balancer belt is behind the timing belt cover w/the timing belt, it turns a counterbalance to cut a large part of the vibration normally found in an inline-4 engine.

the power steering and air conditioning belts are the drive belts.

i'm not at work...i can't get you a price for the head gasket right now. check back tomorrow afternoon.

I just had my timing belt and shizzle done today.

$628 total. Timint belit, water pump, head gasket, compressor belt, power stearing belt, coolant, misc oil seals, cam seals, and a state inspection that I failed cause of a chip in the windshield.

Might want to get a belt tensioner also. Some tend to wear out.

As for headgasket just wait until it blows. They can most likely go the life of the engine as long as you don't allow the car to over heat. Shit when I took the one off my 207,000 D15 head the head gasket looked like I could use it again (not that you could).

Also it is outrageous that it cost about $400 total to have a timing belt replaced. Assuming that includes all part which are like maybe $100 total.

Shit I took off my belt and put it back on and it was easy. I could probably swap out in and out and have it running in and hour.
