you get the use of a house for a certain time period during the year...

so if you've got a timeshare in mexico, you get use to the house/condo/etc for say, 4 weeks out of the year, or whatever "share" of the place you pay for.

do you just pay for the time or are the bills and taxes extra?

I'm pretty sure all utilities, taxes, etc are included.

Most of the time, companies manage all that and charge you a singe fee per year to stay at the place.

we own two weeks of this timeshare stuff. it's at a 5 star resort on maui. and at $700 a week, per year, with everything included. so about $25 per person a night for a family of 4. it's pretty much a steal. this is the place:

another up side is you can trade the time you own for time at another place managed by the same company(e.g. Trading Places) for usually nothing. and that can be any where in the world.

You purchase a percentage of the property or real estate and agree to use it or rent it out for a specific portion out of the year. You can sell it later on or keep it till whenever. You usually pay a certain fee every year to keep it up or remodeled.
