Default Impedance cartidges?

For those of us who hook up subs and stuff, we have had to deal with impedance ratings, trying to get them higher, lower, till we get em just right. I was thumbing through MEM and came across a sub that has removable cartridges to alter the ohm load. Slide in cartridge A and you have a 2ohm stereo load, cartridge B will give you a 4ohm stereo load, they have mono cartridges too. Seems like a cool idea, only problem is that the subs are made by Concept, never heard of em before:dunno: I wonder if the other manufacturers are gonna soon follow suit?

Here's a link ZT series subwoofer

Never heard of them before, and i've been trying to kinda get back into the whole car stereo thing lately. anyone that's gonna build up a car stereo kinda knows before hand what they wanna build, so i don't see a reason to want to change my sub impedance AFTER building my system, but that's just me. I don't think you can go wrong with a dual voice coil sub, they give you a lot of possibilities as far as wiring. Maybe they're just trying to market to people that wanna say they've got something different?

A good example of a situation where they would come in handy:

You have a set of 4ohm DVC subs that can handle 250 watts rms. You have an amp that is pushing 300watts rms between the both of them so you upgrade ur amp so you can push ur subs like they're supposed to be pushed. Only problem is the amp will put out 250x2@4ohms. Now we have a problem. Cause you can't get a 4ohm load out of a 4ohm DVC sub, unless you don't use one of the coils. So if you had a cartridge, you could switch it out to a 2ohm impedance cartridge and call it a day:thumbup:

1. Plan system out
2. Buy system
3. Install system
4. don't worry about changing impedances cause you planned it correctly

damn ur a prick! I guess you don't know what upgrade means. The situation gave is the situation im in. I got a brand new Lanzar OPTI500.2 amp for $150, the thing puts out 450rmsx2@4ohms I couldn't pass it up. So im just sitting on it until I upgrade my subs, but if I could change the impedance on em, i'd be aight.

Well for me it woulod be nice cause i ran two 8 ohm subs for a while to get 4 ohms and the most out of the amp. I took one out for space and didn't like the way it sounded so now there is only one at 8 ohms and 125 watts. Instead of 2 with 250 watts.

:werd: sure would be nice to be able to pop in a cartridge and change the impedance so you can get the most out of ur equipment huh?

hmmmm, I wonder if Concept is a canadian company cause I've heard of it. In fact, between me and my friends I think we've had about 5 Concept subs and about 3 Concept Amps. Concept makes VERY good stuff. I FULLY recommend them to ANYONE.
