the cyclone and the typhoons had the same chassis/powertrain I believe.

I was really hooked on those cars when I was younger.

I had a '92 Cyclone - the S-10 truck version. It was stupid fast.

It got stolen

Insurance paid me for it - I made $8000, so not all bad.

I wish I still had it. I'd upgrade the turbo & such.

Car & Driver did a test on one putting it up against a Ferrari. Under the right conditions (cool dense air) it would chap the Ferrari in the 1/4, but shortly after the 1/4 it was getting chaped because of it's boxy shape & poor aerodynamics.

It basically was the drivetrain from a Buick Grand National with AWD & a 400 turbo auto tranny.

I saw one once in Texas that the guy had taken out the V6 & dropped in a 400 small-block.

I can only imagine how wicked that combo would be cause I had an '82 S-10 with a 350, but it wouldn't hook-up off the line, but it had hella top end. I was clocked once in it @ 165. :naughty:

ok, to clear some things up - the 4.3L V6 was a chevy, the AUTO tranny was the C4 Corvette & the AWD is the same as the Oldsmobile Bravada - single turbo & liquid intercooled. at the time the towing capacity was rated at 500lbs becuz it was still new & experimental. the Syclone & Typhoon were & always will be AWD & AUTOmatic. the Jimmy GT was only the Vortec 4.3L V6, 165hp. 1991 was the only Syclone year, but Typhoon was '92-93. the 280hp rating was published at crank, but all SyTy owners claim that number was closer to the wheels.

this truck is not related to the Buick Grand National in any sense. the GN & T-Type Regals were RWD 3.8L V6 AUTOs. only shared w/ the 20th Anniv Pontiac Trans Am. although some SyTy owners would like the Buick 3.8Lturbo becuz it was better built.

this guy i work w/ has a white 1 & has had it since '95 - he suggests finding out if the motor has been rebuilt, becuz if not it's about to. he's never heard an owner that babies a SyTy; all he has is custom exhaust+mod chip & this is his 2nd motor at 125K miles

the Typhoon and Syclone were and still are badass cars fo sheezy!!!!!! :bigok:

theyre one of the fastest bricks on the street. not too many made either make them hard to find on the street, let alone for sale. i loved these trucks when they first came out.

i'm seriously considering it. i'm done with school in a year and i'm looking for a project car. it's either ...

1993 Honda DelSol
1993 GMC Typhoon (Black)
1995 Nissan 240 Convertible (Black)
1997 Mitsu Eclipse GS-T Spyder

the Ty & the 240 are around the same price, but the GMC can be put on a 60 month, .09% financing deal. the 240 ... i need the $$$ upfront, $5600. the 240 needs alot more work than the Typhoon also.

I think you meant a 94 240 convertible... 95 and above didn't come in a convertible version unless someone did some CRAZY mods
