bought some parts from tiger direct last week, they came in quick.
i assembled everything and noticed the ram was weird going in, but i pushed it in as far as possible without trying to force it. turned the computer on and it started beeping, so i turned it off, tried a few things, turned it on and off a few more times thinking something was bad and all of a sudden the ram slot started glowing and smoking. i quickly shut power off buti t was too late. both the ram and the ram slot in the mobo are fried.
i have two questions. would it be possible for me to buy another stick of ram and stick it in the other slot?
if not, how should i handle this. ive built computers in the past and never have i had ram burn up from not being in the slot enough, neither has anyone ive talked to. i called tiger direct and they said i should call the manufacturer (chaintech). called chaintech and left a message and also emailed them, but no reply or callback.
please help, im too broke to be messing with this crap. im building teh computer for my father-in-law
