memphis subs question
I posted this in audio, but no one goes there.
Basically, this guy wants to sell a set of subs to me for $50. They're 12" Memphis subs, don't know the exact model, but they work, and seem to be in good condition. I looked online and searched audio, and there are mixed reactions. Will's posted that they're competition quality subs, so that seems good. So should I buy them? He's got two sets for $50 a set. no amps, no cables, no box, just the subs. Anyone?

I have 2 Aria 12's on a Memphis (used to be call Fultron) 300w competetion amp in a '91 S-10 Blazer and it put out 140 Db. Sounded real good I always though and had no problems with them. I actually still have everything just collecting dust in the other room. Seeya.

you gotta really check out what model it is. it's like saying, "hey, this guy wants to sell me a Ford for $200, what do you guys think?" for all you know, that Ford can be 60' Pinto. another thing is to inspect the sub. push on the cone make sure it moves freely, and also check the resistance. you might want to consider the resistance rating on them just to make sure your amp can run them without problems.. good luck!!!

He says it's a 600watt 12" sub. Don't know how many there are that have 600 watts. But I can see it's a 12" sub

edit: I just found the only sub type that Memphis makes that looks exactly like the ones I saw today.
It's called the studio subwoofer. Maybe he did say 400 :dunno: I'll ask him tomorrow.
here's a page that describes and shows them:

edit again: searched ebay, only found one set of two subs of this kind, and they were already going for 45 and the auction just started.

I'd go for it, my buddy used to have a memphis 12 and it was sweet. As long as they r in good shape and u know they work, can't really go wrong for $50

the guy tells me that these subs are better than the Alpine Type R 12" subs... any thoughts?
lol, well lucky you, not only did I used to have 2 Alpine Type R 12's, but I've also borrowed my friends memphis before, that 1 memphis was better than 2 type R's, in my experience anyways.
