Help.....:... again.
I've read both of these books, and they are both very good. We were soldiers once is a bit more of a straight-up factual memoir, while The Things they Carried is a bit more literary and a bit more moving.
My favorite war novel by far is Guy Sajer's The Forgotten Solider. It's a memoir about a French-German who fights for the Nazis on the Russian front during WWII, and it's crazy good. Most heart-wrenching and depressing war memoir I've read.

Have you read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies? I've heard good things about that... word of mouth though. And it may be more of a chick thing since it's basically a Jane Austin book. I really wanna read Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
