Okay, I was going to use WIN VNC, but if I can use remote desktop, I may as well.
How do I go about setting that up though? I know the IP's for both computers, but shouldn't I have to set up a user/pass and a port?

if you have xp at home, just go to control panel, system, remote tab, check "allow users to connect remotely to this computer" then click "select remote users" and choose your username. use whatever you're using (i use terminal services client) and put in the IP of your home computer as host, and use your XP username and password

you can even open your cd rom drive and assuming your ip doesn't change you can even reboot your computer, wait a few minutes and connect again.
its great when you have 2 burners. put CDs in, leave and burn em while you're at work
or write down the shit you want to download and download while youre at work.

Spanky, I have XP Home at work and it doesn't give me the options to select the user after I click to allow it.

Of course I have a network at home, and at work.
At home I have both wired access throughout the house as well as a 128bit encrypted wireless network, also with MAC Addresses allowances only. So no one can snag my shiat. =]
The home network has both PC's and MAC's on it, and at one point a *nix boxen, which is now in the closet and turned off.

If security isn't a concern (unimportant info being transferred) then remote desktop is your friend.
Otherwise I'd use a VPN. OR you can set up some a secure IP tunnel through Windows with say... DES or 3DES encryption. That's all selectable through your local security policies under administrative tools.
