Was at Big 5 today here in town, and saw they had a Remington "security" 12gauge 8shot on sale for $319. Basically it is an 870 made specifically for big 5. Is that a decent deal for an 870? Looking for a basic shotty for home defense.

Meh its ok, myself I would buy a used pump, cut barrel down and put a pistol grip on it for less than what that would set you back.

Personally for home defense I like the flexibility of a grip over a stock and if you must have a stock get a fold out design. Two rouds of 00 two rounds of slug then two rounds 00 in the chamber and six more in a sleeve. If you need more than the first six you are proper fucked anyways.

Well yeah, pistol grips are cheap and easy to find.

Right but you would be money ahead buying a used model for say 150-200 and rebuilding the action, a good cleaning and a few minutes with a vice, hacksaw and a file. If you want the 8 round cap just mod the tube, its simple to do really.

I thought 8 round tubes were illegal in Cali though?

Apparently not, it's being sold at Big 5. I'd rather just buy it new and not have to worry about modding/rebuilding it.

yeah, since its 20" and +3, its not a bad price. especially in commiefornia.

i personally think it's silly as shit to mix ammo in the tube. keep all slugs or buck in the gun and slugs on the saddle if you need 'em.

For convenience I would say its a decent deal, check at bimart as well they have some really good deals on them once in a while too, not sure they carry defense models though.
