Default Motorcycle still not titled or registered... problem?

I purchased the Ducati over a year ago and I still have yet to title or register it. I have the signed title and bill of sale from the previous owner. Is it going to be a problem if I take it to the DMV to title and register it over a year after buying it. It is insured and I haven't been driving it on the road so I have had no motivation to get it done. But I want to start driving it on the road next summer.

If you get pulled, you'll probably get a ticket (depending on your local PD) for failing to register. If you carry the bill of sale with you, you should be okay about the title. The DMV shouldn't care about how long you've waited to register it. And in NC, not sure about MD, a registration violation is a misdemeanor, but it's a fix-it ticket, so not a huge deal. Just carry all of your documentation with you and you should be good...assuming you have a license for a motorcycle as well, if not, that's a different set of problems.

I haven't been driving it on the road so there is no risk of a ticket. I was more worried that the DMV would give me a problem for waiting so long. I will get everything legit before I take it out on the street.

Shouldn't be a problem at all. If the hassle you, just tell them it was broken and in storage.

Actually that wouldn't be a lie. It was at the shop for 6 months (waiting for a part)

in CA, if the tags are expired, you have to pay the fees to get it current. for example, i have a bug in my garage for a few years. i let the registration go. if i wanted to re-register it to be able to drive it, i'd have to pay those years fees that i hadn't paid in the past.

Bike is from PA and I live in MD. It has never been registered in MD. Does that effect anything?

And another reason no one should ever live in California.

I've heard this before about CA -- do any other states do this? This is one of the most unjust laws/ordinances out there -- why should you have to pay for something you aren't using on the street? What happens if you have a "barn find" and want to put a Mustang back on the road that hasn't been run in 20 years?
