Default prelude engine question

I know 5th gen and 4th gen VTEC both have h22 engines... but can you take the engine from a 5th gen and put it in a 4th gen?

Say... 2001 into a 95? A 96?

I don't see why you couldn't... but the Prelude people might know better.

Its funny how you will post something in another forum and no one will respond. But you come to the basement and here is where all the action is.

Only thing I could see being a problem would be subtle differences between the 4th & 5th gen engine bays; which may affect anything hanging off the motor. Which gen header will you need? Will the 5th gen IM rub the firewall? But the major elements 'should' be ok: tranny, block, head. Just my 1st impression. Like you said, it's slow... hope that helps, but you've probably thought aboot all that already.

Might the 4th gen be OBD-1 and the 5th OBD-II?

well with the 4th gen... the last year for them was 96... and 96 (as you know) was the first year of OBD II... so there's a grey area there.

I never really looked to see how much space I have from the IM to the firewall with my engine now.... but that's a good idea.

Of course I only have an f22 right now... but.....

At first glance, you 'might' have a PT3... which isn't listed as 'suitable' for an H22. So, you 'might' need a new ECU. http://www.hondata.com/vehicles.html
