These young bucks today...
BEDFORD, Ind. -- A 12-year-old boy and his 11-year-old playmate took a van and led police on a chase with speeds topping 100 mph at times, police said.
Saturday's pursuit began in Bedford and ended about 20 miles away north of Paoli on Indiana 37 in a parking lot after a patrol car struck the van. No one was injured in the collision.
Police said the 11-year-old boy and his 12-year-old friend took a 2001 Chrysler van registered to the 11-year-old's parent about 2 a.m. Saturday.
Police chased the van south from Bedford, with speeds reaching more than 100 mph, according to Lawrence County Police Department records.
Mitchell and Orange County police soon joined the chase, which ended in the parking lot of an auto parts store just north of Paoli.
The report said the 12-year-old was driving the van when a Bedford police car slid in gravel in the parking lot. The officer driving the car was trying to maneuver to block the driver's side door on the van and prevent Johnson from running, authorities said.
Authorities said they expect the 12-year-old to face multiple charges, including resisting arrest by fleeing, criminal recklessness and reckless driving. The 11-year-old was expected to be charged with resisting arrest by fleeing.
