Default How to become a Formula 1 driver or Indy car driver?

How do you do it and how do you get started? Does anyone know? I'm guessing a lot of time behind the wheel and classes?

no seat time or classes will turn you into a world class F1 driver.
You need natural talent.

Well not all of them have talent, so how did they get started? I know they have talent of course but they had to have started from the bottom somewhere.

In Europe you do not need a license to drive a race car. Hence most European drivers just go to the tracks and race their own cars in the hope that some will be impressed and hire them.

Here you need to go through all the crap and then maybe you'll be able drive Cart or Indy.

you start in the amateur circuits. if you are good you will get picked by some sponsors. if you are great you can get picked up by a car owner. etc

most of these people also started racing around age 6 or so, so it's natural to them. They move up in the ranks and are eventually discovered, like everyone said

Check out the Skip Barber racing school. He taught a lot of current Cart/F1 drivers.

my friend is being looked at by BMW to drive in the American Le Mans series. he started racing karts at the age of 9. started Spec Ford Racing at 14. been to skip barber and a couple other driving schools. he has an ungodly amount of driving skill. plus, his dad has many contacts. that last part has got him the farthest.
