I would call the police on him and report him, wouldn't think twice about it, i don't know why you are thinking about it. heck i would call the police on my own dad if i came home one day to find he beat my dog to death.

I am afraid I would be calling the law on that guy. Neglect the animal, then when it gets bad enough beat it to death? Yeah, that's illegal and indicative of one sick fuck.
That said, I have dispatched a dog with a .38 behind the ear. Gave him some snausages first, while he was eating them, did the deed. Generally go to the vet, or have the vet make a house call.

Meh, I would never take down a family pet like that but if I heard someone killed their old ass, flee and shit ridden dog that way I wouldn't lose any sleep over it either.

OK, I'm picturing a frail old chihuahua or some sort of small lap dog here. Does anyone actually think that a solid whack to the head with a baseball bat wouldn't kill it instantly?
I mean, yeah it would take a fucked up person to actually do it, but I don't see how that particular method of dispatching the animal caused it any more pain than any other method.

If he had shot it I would have no issue but a baseball bat is waaayyyy over the line of even remotely acceptable ways to put an animal down.

damn reading this thread gets me fucking mad. i don't get agitated about much, but hearing about someone neglecting a dog and then beating it with a bat to "put it out of its misery" gets me fucking steaming. all dogs want is affection, food, and walks and they offer their loyalty & trust.
