The two can be reconciled, but I tend to kind of separate science from scripture. But think about the way the story is told--you have the various creatures created and on the last day you get man. It doesn't have to be taken absolutely literally, you can interpret it as humans evolving from other animals by their being created later on down the line. Who knows what each of the "days" actually is. The Bible for some reason is the one text that so many people take so literally when the whole point of any text (at least in my mind being an English major) is to develop an interpretation of it.
