In CA you can't not enter into a contract if you are under the age of 18. Same happened to my friend when he was trying to buy his M Coupe. He was 17 so they could not sell the car to him (cash no finance, and before you try to flame, he made the money himself).
So his dad bought the car under his name then transferred the title to his son when he turned 18.
