like BBM

uses internet to send "text"

"s"=sent
"d"=delivered
"r"=read


cant send files or pictures (yet)

have not noticed a major decrease in battery life

Pingchat 2 does the same, been around for a while, free, and you can send pics.

I get unlimited text, so no worries there. but for my friends who refuse to get text, pingchat ftw.

1) it doesn't use a phone line...it uses interent so if you are in an area thy doesn't have 2g/3g coverage you can use wifi
2) normal texting doesn't allow to have real delivery notifications like Kik
3) the actual delivery is a lot faster then a regular text.
4) if you know someone that is in a different country, communications with them is free.

I'll download. It might come in handy when I am in a log cabin in the middle of Montana with no phone coverage, but just so happens to have Comcast cable internet, and when I need a real delivery notification for when I need my friend in India to receive my free text in less than 1 second.
