Default Question about Car Titles

I'll try to explain this as quickly and clearly as possible.

A few years ago I bought a 1967 VW Bug from a friend of mine for a restoration project. My friend had bought it just a little while before I bought it from him, and he had the title for the car. When I bought it from him, he just handed over the title without signing it over to me (so only the original owners signed it). I have never registered or driven the car since I bought it.

The original owners of the car have signed it off, releasing the title. However, they never documented the miles or anything like that (ALL they did was sign it). Now I'm getting ready to sell it, but I'm keeping the engine. So here's my question: Since I never registered it or drove it, is there anything I need to do with the title? Should I sign the title over, or just leave it as it is? The car has basically just been sitting, and I haven't done a lot to it. Basically, I don't want any difficulties or problems arising after I get rid of it. It'll probably be pieced out, but in case it isn't I want to have the title available to the next buyer. Any suggestions?

Check with your states DMV as to what you should do. They will give you the correct answer, as opposed to people from all different states saying, "well a guy I know did this........"

Good point...but wouldn't it be roughly the same in all states as far as registering a vehicle goes?

roughly, yea. but youre kinda in a rare situation

i wouldn't even bother putting it under your name. just give the title to the buyer, imo.
