Whats TNT good for anyway? if you blow up blocks with TNT does it act like you mined them and can pick up the blocks?
Speed. If you're trying to clear an area, TNT is much faster than going at it by hand. It's not clean though. TNT will make floors and ceilings uneven if you're not careful.
TNT will allow the user to pick up some materials (dirt, cobble, redstone, coal). Ores (diamond, gold, iron) will disintegrate.
Apparently, someone blew a TNT hole into Josh's castle wall. This block might have to go away ...
When I was on yesterday I noticed the mountain in front of his house was gone and part of the walkway was gone...i think it's something with the update and not tnt...unless I am talking about a different area.
Also tnt will destroy roughly 75% of blocks leaving 25% for pick up. If you place a block of tnt 3 blocks in stone it will only blast a 3x3x7 hole. Perfect for subways. Now if it encounters soft materials (dirt, sand, gravel, air) all bets are off on the blast radius.

I can confirm this, that's the way I blew out the pyramid.
