Default bmw gurus enter here...v.VANOS?

guy came in with a 2000 740il and the front of the right (driver) head is making a noise like a bad lifter but with a weird tick at the same time. I did some research and it sounds like a VANOS unit, is the 2000 740 a single or dual vanos?

Almost 100% sure it's the M62TU V8 with single VANOS.
Definitely sounds like it could be the VANOS.

M62TU is single VANOS engine (intake side only)

vanos unit is at the head of the engine so i would listen for the noise at the head (err closest to the front bumper) of the engine block.
