Default My "f-ck it, thug lyfe" thread

I woke up from my nap today worried about what to do: reenlist another 4, possibly stay stuck in Jersey, but have a stable income....OR, separate from the service, take the GI Bill and run to Colorado, doing school again part-time, and hopefully working somewhere worthwhile.

After nearly 4 years in the military, reentering the civilian sector is pretty scary and intimidating.

So actually, this thread is to get input from you guys. Stay in or start over in a place I want to be?

Re-enlist. I have been a civilian for 4 years now, and I don't like it, so im re-enlisting. Some people hate military life and.love being back in regular life. I guess it depends on how you like your job and friends now.

I enjoy my job, probably borderline workaholic (dreaming about work though). However, in my naivety, I made myself the "expert" on our systems here thereby making myself "valuable to local mission" meaning....HQ won't let me leave here until there is someone else they feel is a good replacement. With the way things are looking at my shop, there isn't anyone else

Re-enlist.

I got out almost a year ago now, and I regret it. Looking at going back now.

Do you have employment opportunities/training in your current path through the AF? If so, then you are probably good at de-listing now, if not, I would take advantage and try a different MOS and more rounded field to better prepare you for civy life.

Also check out online universities for schooling while you are still enlisted...your GI Bill is usable(at the university I work at...PM me if you want) and if anything the credits could transfer to a traditional university as well...just whatever you do, stay away from University of Phoenix...they are bad juju.

Well for the past 3.5 years I've worked and learned advanced radar systems. I could work with the FAA, but jobs there are very nepotistic. I've applied to Raytheon and Boeing IDS with no response. There is a job fair in near Baltimore end of this month geared toward military (re: Northrop Grumman, etc.) with technical backgrounds like mine, however, I'll be getting ready to go to Afghanistan the following week.

I already have a B.A. from Penn State, but now I'm thinking of getting something B.S.

Plus I know whenever we were up for re-enlistment the Brass would offer meritorious (sp?) promotion for it. So the extra pay grade was always a good incentive for some.
