Just got done reading Stephen Kings - Under the Dome. It's the first of his books that i've ever read and after reading this one, it definitely won't be the last. Great read all the way through. There were some points in the book that i felt was a bit of a grind to read, but it made me want to read more knowing that something epic was going to soon come. I almost felt like i was in the small town in Maine. Definitely suggest checking it out.

Anybody have any books they can recommend. I'm debating on starting the Dark Tower Trilogy or The Stand since I heard the stand is as good as Under the dome and share similar qualities. I'll probably get Dark Tower from the iBook store, and The Stand from teh Kindle Store.

I recommend anything NOT written by hacks like Stephen King.

The Stand is great but I don't recommend the Dark Tower series, it turns to dog shit after the fourth book. Don't waste your time.

Most of his books are entertaining to read though. Insomnia and Needful Things we're nice.

Just read The Road and watched to movie recently. Overall, they were both good but I wouldn't consider either a must-read/see.

Looking at starting Natsuo Kirino's "Out" soon and John Knowles' "A Separate Peace"

That's what I was fearing about the Dark Tower Series. I guess i'll try The Stand next. I'm also open to other authors as well. Just besides Goosebump books, this is the only book i've ever read from cover to cover.

I really enjoyed Stephen King's earlier works, but he can definitely be hack-ish at times. He writes more novels in a year than some novelists do in their entire lives. But some of his work, like The Stand, It, Misery, The Shining, Firestarter, Cujo, Salem's Lot, and especially the first 3 books of the Dark Tower series are just incredible examples of suspense/horror. The 4th book of the Dark Tower series is still pretty good, just not up to the standards of the first 3. But it definitely goes downhilll after that and has a very disappointing ending with no closure. I haven't read anything he's put out in the last few years, though, including Under the Dome. The Stand is probably my favorite outside of the first few Dark Tower books, so definitely dive into that. It's pretty long, so it should keep you reading for a while.

Currently reading Perdido Street Station by China Mieville. About halfway through. This is a pretty sweet combo of steampunk/sci-fi/fantasy, and I'm really enjoying it so far. In the last month or two I have finished up Look to Windward by Ian M. Banks (awesome), The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan (really makes you think about what you eat), and The Last Colony by John Scalzi (good, but not as good as Old Man's War or The Ghost Brigades).
