Yellow ribbon is for POWs, not troop support. At least get your own color. :jerkit:

Precisely how does this mindless display of jingoism support our troops?

I already support our troops--I pay taxes.

Actually it was originally started by Penne Laingen, the wife of hostage Bruce Laingen who was taken in Iran after the US embassy was stormed in 1979. The original ribbon was tied to a tree in her front yard for her husband and the other hostages.

Today it is a symbol of support for our troops that are serving our nation abroad. This new meaning took form during the first Gulf War and has carried on since then.

agreed, i remember quite clearly during the gulf war that the yellow ribbon is meant to support all troops, whether or not they got captured.
