i once peed in my pants in a crowded jeepney when i was little:doh:
but yea, never heard of a jeepney being called rice
The first time I heard the word "rice" being used in reference to a vehicle, it was a Harley Davidson owner referring to all Japanese motorcycles. They were referred to as "rice burners". The use of the "rice burner" term soon expanded to include Japanese automobiles as more of them were sold in the US. It wasn't necessarily a derogatory term, although today it would be considered politically incorrect. WWII veterans and people whose jobs depended on the American automobile industry did mean it in a derogatory way.
During the "dark ages" of American performance cars, roughly from 1973 to 1983, car makers made up for the lack of horsepower that had been sapped by pollution and fuel economy laws by dressing up the cars to look fast. These "sticker packages" on weak cars made them the laughingstock of serious performance enthusiasts.
So when people started putting stickers and body kits on slow Japanese economy cars and drove around pretending to be badasses, the term "ricer" was born to ridicule these poseurs. These days "rice" generally refers to any car that has been modified with lots of fashion items that connote performance, but little or no performance mods. Of course everybody has their own individual interpretation.
