Either way the 2010 and 2011 models are dog's ass ugly so it doesn't much matter to me. I also am not a big fan of the WRX or STi at all but I do recognize the difference in offerings.

The biggest difference between the two is the drivetrain on the Sti, its much more advanced then what is found on the standerd WRX allowing it handle different terrains, so for most people who will only ever be driving it from point a to point b other then having that badge on the back of the car and a wide body kit (which will be standerd on the 2011 wrx) there is very little difference except for oh yea price. So yes, i stand by my statement that the new wrx is almost an STI, and the rest of you fan boys can continue to dry hump a badge, ill keep my 10 grand

...or you can save even more money by buying the Impreza GT and slapping a turbo on it. according to your thought process, that's the same thing.

From the linked C&D article:

but there are a couple of good explanations. First, the WRX STI weighs a hearty 180 pounds more than the base WRX, according to our scales. Second, the STI and its closer-ratio six-speed manual call for two shifts to 60, while the regular WRX's five speed hits 60 mph in second gear. By the time the pair travel a quarter-mile, the '09 WRX loses some ground, though; both cross the line at 102 mph, with the base Rex edging out the STI by just 0.1 second, 13.5 to 13.6.

So...in a drag race the WRX edges the STI.

Point-to-point around a twisty back road or around a track I'm sure the STI does a fairly better job.

Sure you get more bang for the buck with the regular WRX. But I don't think most STI customers are buying it just to win drag races.

jeez, most of us are NOT the regular point A to point B people and would actually take advantage of the STi.
