God Bless America
understandable in that regard BUT freedom of religion is still protected for children even in school. public schools can not discriminate against a religious belief any more than a business or college or the govt can. and this was simple discrimination.
art is an expression of the artist, it's bound to be controversial to some and noones going to like everything. to deny a child their freedom of expression, speech AND religion like this is just wrong

Hopefully there's more to it than this, but here's my point of view as a naturalized citizen.
I came to this country because my parents thought that it was a country of dreams and open opportunities to have a better life. We worked hard to learn the American culture while preserving our own by speaking our own language to each other when we're at home. We all learned how to speak English and will never speak our language when we're around others because it's quite rude to speak in a language that the other person can't understand. We mourn the day that our country fell to communism, and we still remember what our national flag looks like and we salute it when appropriate.
However, we consider ourselves to be Americans because we swore an allegience to this country when we became citizens. It's not that we betrayed our origins, but it's that we are here in America and it's our home now. We salute the American flags first during our cultural nights and then our own because it is the symbol of OUR COUNTRY. We fly the American flag above our flag because it is because of America that we are allowed to observe our own cultures. Not all of us are Christians, but never once do we hesitate to say the Pledge of Allegience because it has the phrase "Under God". So yes, you can observe and preserve your own cultures because America will defend your right to do so, but at the same time you should pay America the respect it deserves because you live in it and through that you're granted the right to do the previous.
Why the fuck can't these assholes learn to do that? Seriously! America is OUR COUNTRY. It belongs to everyone who lives in it. Don't piss on your country's face and say "It's better where I come from...blah blah blah" Maybe I am old and jaded, but honestly tired of hearing this bullshit from ungrateful fucking immigrants who don't deserve to live here. Yeah, that's right. GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY COUNTRY IF YOU DON'T FUCKING LIKE IT. America was founded under Christian influence. Deal with it. No one is forcing you to believe in God. Worship whoever the fuck you want, but when you say the Pledge of Allegience you will fucking say it the way it was written. When you salute the flag you salute the American flag!
