Daley is an asshole. He's wanted that site for his own personal playground ever since he moved out of Bridgeport, and into the fancy gated community near Meigs. His "homeland security" excuse is total BS. There's a heliport even closer to downtown, and he hasn't closed that.

 

Yeah I agree..... This is going to piss off a lot of people I didn't think the mayor had the authority to do something like this without even contacting the FAA

 

My stepdad used to be an Air Traffic Controller there back in the early 80's. Reagan fired him when they striked. Wow, I'm kinda old because I remember that.

 

Can you imagine what a shock it was to the people who were planning on landing there this morning? You don't just close an airport without prior notice! New maps have to be made, NOTAMs have to be issued. Daley's lucky that nobody crashed because they didn't have enough fuel to get to an alternate airfield.

 

I always hated the whole Daley clan...they are corrupt as corrupt can get!

Yup, that's how a lot of people outside of Chicago have gotten to know and love Meigs Field. Sad to see it go
