Default iPhone crew v. Cracked my screen

So I was walking to my apartment from my buddy's apartment and when I reached to answer a text, I dropped my phone on the pavement. Unfortunately, I don't have a case or anything on my phone. I used to have one, but it would scratch the back of my phone, so I quit using it and just didn't get a new one...which was a mistake I know. But yeah, it's cracked all around the home button. Luckily it doesn't cover much of the actual screen and I still have full use, but it's spider webbed like a bitch.

Anybody had any experience with getting a cracked screen replaced through Apple? There's an Apple store about an hour for me, I'll probably go Monday and see if they can replace it for me.

Fuck I'm so pissed at myself right around now.

*Edit* - Took a pic with my roomate's iPhone

I think there are kits you can buy to replace them yourself.

Guy at work shattered his screen like that (top left corner, but same idea) and had it replaced at the apple store. Costs $199.

it's not too hard to swith out...I've done it on an iPod touch. Just be very careful with the ribbon cable, it's very fragile.

this is what you want, it's the whole digitizer (the glass you cracked which is actually the touch screen) + the frame that holds it in, already put together and everything...all you have to do is pry the other one out, plug this one's cable in and snap it into place.
