bwahaha Arizona is on a f*ckin ROLL lately!
NO i dont think youre a racist. i think youre misguided and you assume that the lowest common denominator is still going to be above racial profiling. while i applaud your optimism, im a minority living in LAPD, i know what racial profiling is and isnt.
the reason i posted this thread was because law makers in arizona dont seem to know how the fuck to appeal to a demographic because they are singling out hispanics with both of these laws. whether you choose to believe this or not, its very true.
while i didnt want to dignify that stupid shit with a response i guess youre asking for it.

and as for everything else ... spend some time living on a border city in arizona and tell me if your mindset on all this changes. its not exactly a peaceful time living on the border. these people who are LEGALLY in the county and citizens of the US have the right to protect themselves and enact laws against those who dont care about the rules of the land they are in illegally. the level of crime by illegals is so high its absolutely scary
it's a FEDERAL requirement for school aid that fluency in english is achieved by teachers ... it's up to the states though to make sure that the fluency is monitored. they are not singling anyone out but those people who don't have the skills to teach the subject they are supposed to be teaching

what about the level of crime in detroit fucking with canadas borders?
how about fuck the border cities at all, what about americas HIGHEST CRIME RATE CITY ST LOUIS which borders nothing.
we dont talk about that though, just the mexicans fighting eachother down south.
pheonix has some of the lowest violent crime rates in the country, so dont tell me they are living in fear of anything. other than how fucking pitiful their state is.
I appear to be a bit late to this flame bait so how about a little talking about the article?
This isn't about Arizona being so just and noble and wanting to make sure all the little Mexican kids learn English from someone with a proper American accent.
The state of Arizona actively recruited teachers from Spanish-speaking countries who could hack it decent enough at English to come to Arizona and teach Spanish to English-speaking kids. These people were NOT hired as ESL teachers. Kind of like how Americans can go get jobs in Japan teaching English to Japanese kids, even if the American in question isn't so great at Japanese.
Then the voters of Arizona in their infinite wisdom decided voted to get rid of the Spanish immersion classes because WE SPEAK ENGLISH HERE DAMMIT AND WE CAN'T HAVE THESE HISPANICS INDOCTRINATING OUR CHILDREN WITH THEIR SPANISH. But the schools couldn't just fire all of the native Spanish-speakers they had just hired, so instead they transferred them to teaching ESL or just other non-language subjects. None of which they were hired for in the first place.
Now several years down the road, the AZ Dept of Education still has all these native Spanish-speakers on their hands and this new interpretation of No Child Left Behind (the law itself ain't all bad...) gives them a way to thin the ranks out a bit.
A lot of shoulda-coulda-woulda as I see it:
Maybe the AZ Dept of Ed shouldn't have hired quite so many native Spanish-speakers just to teach Spanish to the American kids.
Maybe the voters of AZ shouldn't have voted to get rid of the immersion classes when the state had just hired so many new teachers who couldn't readily transfer to other classes.
Maybe the AZ Dept of Ed should have invested more effort in re-training all their native Spanish-speaking teachers so they'd be better at their new jobs they were forced into by the voters of AZ.
So...we're here a couple decades down the line from the beginning of a cascade of stupidity, and the whole deal is fucked. Not that I have any bright ideas on how to fix it.

I didn't read into this thread... But are any of you bitching about immigration even immigrants? When my family moved to this country we embraced its culture... All of it. That doesn't mean we forgot ours however. I'm saying really speak proper english or get the fuck out of here.

They had so many Mexican kids in the public schools, they started teaching courses in Spanish and English, as the illegal alien parents spoke little to no English. Rather than trying to teach the kids English, then Math and History, they just let them speak Espanol, rather than not graduate from HS. It was never about teaching the American kids Spanish, though that was a side deal. It was parallel course instruction, English or Spanish, bilingual education program, get it?
Down the road, they figured out what my buddy's wife, a legal immigrant who had a college education when she came here, figured out. You had best speak English in the USA. At her daughter's 11th birthday, her older brother gave her grief because her daughter only spoke a little Spanish, as the grandparents only spoke Spanish. He was unwise enough to be critical of her parenting choices in her home. She lit him up, as his kids only speak Spanish, no English at all. She pointed out to him that his children would be digging ditches and washing dishes, who did he really thing was doing the right thing for their kids? This was a very heated exchange in Spanish, and she gave every impression she was about to pick up a chair and break it over his melon.
These teachers have been given the opportunity to improve their English skills, or teach in classes that did not have anybody learning the lingo.
Your straw man construction sucks ass BTW. First of all, how many people are sneaking into Canada from Detroit and committing a bunch of violent crimes? Are Americans sneaking into Vancouver to kidnap family members of drug trade rivals? Are a third of the inmates in Canadian penitentiaries illegal aliens? Is Phoenix a border city? No more than LA is. WTF does a South Boston or Southern accent have to do with anything? Please, either pull your head out of your ass or STFU.
