also on my regular temp files
it just shows a bunch of notepad looking files
i know there has to be more than that

Removing files from your HD will not make it faster. It's only bits, not "stuff" that adds weight. It makes no difference if your disk is empty or full, it performs the same.

Defragmenting can help performance a little, but it makes less difference on modern ZBR, LBA drives than it did in the past. I use PageDefrag to defragment the registry and paging files. Windows' defragmenter can't do this.

Defrager basically just makes it so that it's quicker to RETRIEVE information your computer stores. Over time, small bits of info. gets moved to a different place on the disc(hard drive disc), thus takes longer to load and/or retrieve something. Defrag rearranges info. so that it's where it's supposed to be.

Oh yeah, if you want your computer to go faster, by the GeForce 4 card, get the latest AMD Athlon XP+ processor(rater MUCH higher than Intel by FAR), and buy 512 mgs. of RAM.

dude you need to quit because slow-N-low knows a lot more than you do. so do many others on HAN.

on xp when you first start up and you hit ctrl alt delete and look at the processes that are running, what all should and have to be there?

That is was Defrag does...now whether it's necessary on newer computers with newer operating systems is a different story.
