My CBR 600 is my starter. I've ridden dirt bikes all my life, and I wouldn't suggest starting less than a 600. I think you'll get bored quick with a 250. Yeah you could get a 500 ninja, but then why not just go for the 6? Agree with Cam on not going bigger than that though. I know a few dumb fucks who thought they could get on a Hyabusa first thing...big mistake.

h: Never really ridden a bike before. Been on motor scooters a couple times. Thats why I'm looking at road bikes more than sport bikes/crotch rockets.

I imagine he did not mean a new one. A 600 from 5-10 years ago is a much slower, less powerful bike than the ones today while only weighing about 50 lbs more.

No not at all I started on a 600 when I was 15 and at 17 had a GSXR1100.

A 600 is a very manageable machine, but it also has enough to it that he won't outgrow it in a short period if ever. That's the beauty of a 600 class bike and they hold their value far better than lower class bikes because of this.

I wouldn't suggest something that would get Marshy killed, he is a smart guy and I am sure he can figure out that the bike will only go as fast as you want it to with the throttle twist.

I learned on a 2005 R6. You will be fine with a 600.

If you buy under a 500cc, you are going to be kicking yourself in 3 months.

Just because you have the power doesn't mean you have to use it. That's why there is a throttle.

Buy a 500-650cc bike, and be absolutely careful while you are learning... and afterward too.

I learned on a 250, but that's when i was 12. Any responsible person should be able to handle a 600.
