Witnesses were able lead police to Beeks, who was rushed to an Edison hospital were he later died. Investigators quickly took the 10-year-old into custody.
While prosecutors are not releasing the suspect's name, they are saying that he did not know the 3-year-old and that a motive is still unclear.
Authorities say the 10-year-old boy cannot be tried as an adult. The suspect is being held in the Middlesex County Youth Detention Center and faces a sentence of 20 years on the murder charge.
