This^^^^^^
A lot people don't remember that this album was bashed by the critics
That video was put out about 6 months after the album dropped
The label didn't know how to market the album:dunno:

I am wondering though why it is that Digable Planets hit big with their venture into jazz hop?
Was it that Guru just didn't have the radio friendly approach and therefore got "blacklisted" sort of for not having a single?

I think it was a little of That and marketing/promotion.
Digable planets record company push that single to every pop/college radio station they could.
Mix that with mtv and you got success.
The 1st jazzmatazz Vol 1. album came out months before Digable Planets.
Both singles from jazzmatazz were not radio friendly.
Digable Planets became popular because of the single "Cool like that" and constant radio play on the college stations.
jazzmatazz was a better album imo because it used more live band (which is jazz)
Digable planets first album was a lot of jazz samples(successful album Grammy)
Digable Planets 2nd album,no promotion,no marketing,more live band,album is clearly their best album(commercial flop):dunno:

I’VE BEEN ASKED TO COMMENT ON A LETTER SPEAKING ILL OF ME WHICH WAS SUPPOSEDLY WRITTEN BY GURU IN HIS DYING DAYS. ALL I WILL SAY ABOUT IT IS THAT OUR TIME TOGETHER WAS BEAUTIFUL, WE BUILT A HIP HOP LEGACY TOGETHER, AND NO ONE CAN RE-WRITE HISTORY OR TAKE AWAY MY LOVE FOR HIM. ONE THING I WOULD NEVER DO IS PLAY AROUND WITH THE TRUTH ABOUT HIS LIFE.

I WILL CELEBRATE GURU’S LIFE… I WILL HONOR HIS MEMORY… I WILL GRIEVE WITH THE ELAM FAMILY OVER HIS UNTIMELY DEATH… I WILL REMEMBER THE GANG STARR FOUNDATION AND ALL OF THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF GANG STARR WHO CAME BEFORE ME – WE ALL KNOW EACH OTHER… MOSTLY, I WILL CHERISH EVERYTHING WE CREATED TOGETHER AS GANG STARR, FOREVER. I’M GONNA MISS HEARING HIS SIGNATURE MONOTONE VOICE WHEN HE WALKS IN THE ROOM, BUT THE SONGS WILL ALWAYS BRING IT BACK TO ME….HIS RHYME FLOWS WERE INSANE, AND I WILL NEVER REMOVE HIM FROM MY HEART AND SOUL…….REST IN PEACE TO THE MAN WHO FELT “SATISFACTION FROM THE STREET CROWD REACTION” … I LOVE YOU GOO…….DJ PREMIER
