Default Tax pros, enter here

So here is an interesting issue.

On Taxact it stated I would receive $311 back from state, however you pay $15 to file your state, so I go through my CA franchise tax board for free. I entered what I believe is all accurate, and their site states I sould receive $1162 as a refund.

I am hesitant to file it since it is such a drastic change. I have a business income that they haven't asked for, but nowhere to input it...so damn confused. Any tax gurus want to help me out?

Look to see if Taxact has a print option. I believe turbotax and H&R blocks allows you to print your state without paying to efile.

Found out what it was...turns out TaxACT sees unemployment as income addition for both Fed and state, whereas it is a deduction for state. So the unemployment payments reduced our AGI drastically which changed out tax bracket. I am supposed to get the $1162 and not $311.

Where did you get that information? Unemployment is income :eh: I think it is largely taxable after a certain amount. I am almost certain that is it not a deduction.

Could be wrong.

http://www.edd.ca.gov/pdf_pub_ctr/de8714b.pdf

2nd Page, Claimant Taxes:

For 2009 it is taxable federal income after $2400. It is NOT taxable in CA. It is NOT a deduction.
