planning on visiting in late may with the gf. what are some places to go to/things to do besides fishermans wharf, golden gate, alcatraz, chinatown? also, gonna be renting a car and staying close to the Powell station of the BART, how is the parking there during the weekends? we need a car because we want to drive down to big sur for a day trip but dont want to pay the hotel $25/daily for parking. thanks.

p.s. do we really need a car to see sf? thinking about just renting the car for 1 day only.

Rent a car....there a lot to see around the Bay. And if you are going in late May, it should be some awesome weather.

when we went, we had our car but didn't use it all that much. we found that places seemed far on the map, but didn't take that long to get to. i think next time we go, we'll probably walk or bring bikes for the whole time.

to answer the initial question may will be great weather. everything depends on how long you are staying and what not. you have all the museums to go to as well as shopping and plays/musicals. also you have japantown to go to as well. also don't forget that's the middle of baseball season so you can catch a giant's game (one of the best parks imo). plenty of food and stuff to do.

how was your trip btw? i ended up being in sf for like 3 hrs for a photo exhibition but left, but the weather was good on the weekend.
